Jackson is a town in Wyoming’s Jackson Hole valley, home to 3 ski areas: Jackson Hole Mountain Resort, Snow King Mountain Resort and Grand Targhee Resort. Visit the Town Square that features arches made of shed antlers from the nearby National Elk Refuge.
How far: 1 hour & 45-minute drive from Rexburg
What to do: Walk around downtown to do some gift shop browsing, take a photo under the famous antler arches, and grab some huckleberry Ice Cream at Moo’s Gourmet Ice Cream. In the summer enjoy picnicking, swimming at Slide Lake, White Water Rafting on the Snake River, and mountain biking up Cache Creek. In the Winter enjoy snow tubing, snowshoeing, cross country skiing, and other winter tours.
*Bonus: You are close enough to do a day trip visit to Yellowstone National Park, as well as Grand Teton National Park!
How much time will I spend there: Plan to spend 1-3 hours walking around downtown Jackson. Depending on other activities and day trips, plan time accordingly.
What to bring: Dress appropriate for the weather and what activities you have planned. Some suggestions would be to bring water, snacks, picnicking supplies, and sunscreen.
Best time to go: Spring and Summer! This is when the nicest weather activities can be done.
Things to know: Jackson is home to the world’s longest running shootout. Beginning in 1957, the shootout can be seen Monday-Saturday on Town Square to this day! There have been many feature films shot on location in Jackson Hole including: "Shane," "Rocky IV," "Django Unchained," and "Any Which Way You Can."
