What a Beaut! Check out the Menan Buttes!

How far: 20 minute drive, 12 miles from Rexburg.

What to do: The Menan Buttes are located just outside of Rexburg, Idaho. These now extinct volcanos are two of the largest volcanic tuff cones in the world! Rising to about 800 feet, you will be offered incredible views of the Snake River Valley and surrounding mountain ranges. Menan offers a medium difficulty hike uphill with a mixture of easy and medium difficulty around the base of the volcano. The mix of terrain along with the stunning views that are offered make for a fun hike that’ll guarantee a return trip!

How much time will I spend there: Prepare to spend an hour to an hour and a half when hiking along the circular top.

What to bring: hiking boots, water, snacks.

Best time to go: during the morning or on a clear day in the Spring, Summer, and early Fall.

Things to know: It used to be an active volcano thousands of years ago!
